A lone figure climbs quietly along a ridge under what little light the moon offered.
'What am I doing here?' she asked herself. 'I owe nothing to these people. They would be the first to spit on me and yet...here I am.'
With a sigh, she continued her climb, her small cape flapping in the breeze behind her until she reached the top. Slowly, she crouched on the rise to get a better look at the land below her. Blinking to adjust her eyes to the patches of black below her, she silently wished for the night vision many of her cousins had. Many rumors heard in streets talked of creatures lurking in these areas, others mentioned a fortress, but so far she had seen or heard nothing to make her believe they were true.
A quick look revealed nothing that might peak her interest, but then again, that was exactly what peaked it. Her tail waved eagerly behind her and after finding a new spot on the horizon to reach, she disappeared into the night.

The Maiden made her way across the crevice and deeper into the internal valley. She could hear nothing still; save a whip of the winds making a whistle through the spiny bushes that inhabited the patches of dirt among the mountains curves. A high pitched whistle that made her ears shrink back and flip a bit more than was usual.
Reaching the pathway she continued deeper into the hills, catching a well-known scent. A scent of decay, of rot and sunder known to her in a swamp perhaps, but not the high dry desert, invaded her sensitive nostrils. Now down on all fours she swam through the dust on the road, peaking only her eyes through the collection of stones to the open road ahead of her.
There was a cave entrance, along a wide path. Orcs, piled to the waist high, just outside. Movement within, but not a sound. Looking up the road, she could only see to a bend that rather quickly turned with the shape of the mountains' edges and looked to head towards the well known cut path through from the Southern Province to the Sarr Lands far below this height, though she knew this to be rather far off. Down the road, darkness and shadow. It seemed her little path was just a small vein in the circulation.
She quietly looked down at her weapons, and then looked up again for movement. Perhaps the close space made her react so.
The choker about her neck jingled at the move, and sounded louder among the close knit, hardened rocks, carrying its alarm farther than it should have. She held her breath.

Her eyes were drawn to the pile of orcs at the cave entrance, and almost without thought the corner of her lips drew up in a grin. It's the little things that make your day afterall.
Who out here would, or could, do that? Considering goblinoids were the rumor at the moment, one could assume they were culprits. But goblins? Unless there was something she didn't know about the goblins here, it was highly doubtful they did it. And Bramus was too far away.
The only way to find out was to take a careful peek inside. Reaching down, she loosened her sword in it's scabbard. When she looked up again, she heard the jingle of her choker. The sound echoed off the rocks around her and she froze. Her hand tightly gripped the hilt of her sword as she held her breath and waited.
A hundred options ran through her mind in that moment, but she preferred to wait and see what she had to work with. She wasn't shy about getting into a fight, but she didn't go looking for them either.

The quiet permeated the air, and nothing came of it. A small breeze and a bird overhead, but nothing more. The choices Tia had were still hers to make. As she peeked over the rocks once again, she saw much the same scene.

Seeing that no one had to come to investigate, she crept quietly toward the cave entrance, making sure to stay hidden off the side of the pathway. Once near the entrance, she eased the sword out of it's sheath and slipped inside.

Going from the daylight to the darkness was an adjustment for most of Tyrra's creatures. The cave shown plenty of light near the entrance but quickly dropped off not 5 feet from the entrance. Ducking to one side and behind a cluster of old stalagmites the fox scavenger was able to wait a moment, adjust, and then move deeper into the cave.
Over the minutes she hid quietly, she heard nothing. She strained her ears in different directions, but aside from the drip of water or the whistle of wind she could detect nothing. It was strange to her to hear the sounds of water here in this part of Tyrra, but anything was possible.
Once her eyes had adjusted, she gripped her sword and shifted to move deeper into the cave. She took perhaps 3 or 4 steps before she realized what she was into. Skeletons were all around, zombies here and there, and assorted other creatures. This was a lair, to be certain. But a lair that hunted orcs?
What to do now, what to do...

She padded gently backwards the way she came in, hoping nothing was disturbed by her brief and discreet presence. Once she was no longer surrounded by the undead, she turned toward the entrance and made her way outside.
The sun was still shining overhead, so the vixen looked for high ground to watch the cave. Spotting something not too far off with a decent vantage point, she clambered to the top and hid amongst the rocks and waited. Perhaps she would learn something once the sun set.

As the time passed, Tia could hear very little of anything. The activity could be seen here and there but nothing ventured out. Whatever had been the hub of activity here now seems to be avoiding it, or is as quiet as can be.
It is clear that Tia can not learn much more without being in the thick of it, as the expression goes.

Something was going on in the cave, that was for certain, but it seemed that was the only place anything was happening. She sat up in a crouch and winced at the cramps in her legs. Sitting still too long without moving had caused cramps to form. Little growls rumbled in her throat as she forced her legs to move. As quietly as she could, she stepped toward the edge of her hiding spot and jumped down to the road.
"Well if they wont come out then I guess I'll have to go in",she said to herself.
There was the distinctive, if muffled sound of her longsword being drawn, and she smiled at it the moonlight reflecting off its smooth surface. She readied her shield and taking one last look around to make sure all was clear, she got low to the ground and made her way toward the entrance. There was no attempt to stay hidden on the side of the road...the danger was inside.
Tia felt the butterflies in her stomach as she once more found herself inside the cave, but she ignored them and forced herself to keep going. She was determined to find out what was going on in here, even if she had to walk all the way through to do so. Her body close to the walls as she walked, she had hoped to avoid most of the wandering undead. Only when there was no immediate cover did she run from one place to the next. More then once, she touched the choker at her neck and hoped she wasn't here for nothing. Arainyn would definately be mad if she died for nothing.
For some reason, that thought brought a smile to her lips despite her situation.

Just before the fox was able to get inside the henhouse, the stench reached her nostrils She could sense a group of goblins or some such heading her way, and rather quickly too. She quickly took some cover back the way she'd come, and watched the goings on. A large group of goblins, trolls, and an ogre made their way to the cave entrance. They looked well armed, prepared, and ready. Glowing hands, sharp weapons, and alchemy could all be seen, and after a few moments they entered the cave.
The sounds of such battle could be heard as distant echos and screams. The next thing to be seen was undead, basic zombies and skeletons, dragging corpses outside the cave. A fire was lit, and before long a large plume of smoke could be seen snaking its way out of the mountain passage.
If the stench was bad before, it was positively rotten now.
Not long after this another similar group of prepared, well-armed goblinoids appeared and entered the cave. Time passed, and the cramps in Tia's legs had returned. As she carefully stretched and peaked her head out, she could hear the sounds of a creature running out the cave. She ducked down, and spotted a small troll escaping the cave. He bolted passed the burning corpses and headed down a main trail. Tia saw him turn a corner and disappear. Only a few seconds had passed when she heard the troll's screams of agony. He'd obviously run the wrong way.
At this Tia was at a loss as to what to do. Before she could change her mind, she spotted a group of undead coming down one of the main paths. They were being led by a creature that looked all too familiar for her taste, hefting the body of a bloody troll on the end of a long pike. They gathered near the cave entrance and waited. In a short time, 4 more of the 2nd team of goblinoids emerged running from the cave, and the undead enveloped them.
Needless to say, there be undoubtedly a few of her questions answered and even more questions now to ask.

She sucks in a breath and waits until they all pass, hoping her breath couldn't be heard. It was obviously time to change tactics.
Once it quieted down again, she padded softly away from the cave and along the main path the last group of undead had come from, hoping it might lead her to something bigger. Weapons still at the ready, Tia crept quietly along the side of the road, keeping to the shadows, as she tried to place where she had last seen the familiar creature leading the undead.

The more she walked, the clearer the picture came to her. The creature leading the mindless rabble held glowing red eyes and carried a twisted rotting corpse for a frame. Though many of the undead she had encountered in her life held such characteristics, this one stood with a power she had not seen in some time. It seemed to be bred to lead.
As she travelled down her chosen path, it seemed to twist off to the Northeast, towards other lands she had heard of. It was a wide path and built for some easy travel through this rough mountain terrain. If she continued to go this way for some time, she would be out of the mountains and well on her way to other alliance kingdoms.

She stopped in the middle of the path and squinted off into the distance. A strong breeze blew up the dust around her as if telling her it was time to return. She nodded in agreement to herself and padded quietly off the road, her destination Lochling.
