(plot post)
As the captain surveyed the scene, he thought about how such a thing could have come into being.
'Orcs have never camped so openly before. Especially next to a main road! Then again, they had proven to be of different caliber than most orcs. They seemed to want to live peacefully with us, offering us food and shelter. Some of them had learned a bit of our language and spoke of a Knight gifting them with the land. That was of course what delayed the attack. They had to verify who this 'Knight' was and if he indeed had the authority to do it. As it turned out, none of our men had. Of course not. Nobody gives lands to an orc tribe, not even a friendly one!'
He smirked and shook his head. He squinted up at the sun. It would be dark soon and there were still some strange things in these mountains. He called to the men who were finishing up with the bodies, "Hurry it up! I want to get back to base before sundown. Besides, the stench of burning orc is starting to get to me." The men laughed at that and doubled their efforts, they didn't want to be out here any longer either.
As they made their way back he couldn't help but think that if the orcs had been more hostile, none of them would have survived. As it was, nobody even needed a life spell! They had been outnumbered 3 to 1. The initial reports hadn't been accurate at all. Odd when you consider that they were very open and friendly to all. It should have been easy to count them. Oh well, it was a slaughter none the less. Another mission accomplished for the Southern Duchy and the glory of the High General. They will have to keep more of an eye on this spot in the future...
