One of the military men you ask says gruffly, "The healers' are off in that building and them wizards are over there." He points as he is speaking to two different sections of the fort.

Azre smiles brightly as he takes in all that is SouthFort, calling out greetings he try's to find his way to the local quartermaster or to a merchant house that could sell the wares that Shallowford so desperately needs...all the while keeping an eye out for the supplies he would need for he's own project of a new potion workshop.

The Quartermaster is easy to find, there is usually a line in front to see him, and it doesn't take long before you stand before his large counter where he works taking down orders for the citizens that require supplies. He looks up from writing down the last customer's order and sees you.
"I haven't seen you before. Well, I guess I'll let you know how this works then. This isn't a normal 'merchant' shop, friend. This is a military quartermaster supply station. I am authorized to sell any items we may have a surplus of and I can also take orders that will be relayed to merchants in towns throughout the Kingdom. Such orders are usually filled in about 1 to 2 weeks. I am also the one you need to see about turning in bounties and if you feel like you'd like to try selling something. I should also tell you that the healer's sometimes deal in potions and tomes and the wizards will often deal in scrolls and tomes. I even know of a few individuals that have commissioned the creation of items of power from those groups as well. I understand it is very expensive though. So, now that you know the way of things here, what can I help you with?"

Spike wanders over to the Celestial guild. He knocks on the door hoping to hear an answer. " Excuse me," he announces loudly. " Is this where one can have my apprentice and my self purchase some materials?"

Azre checks over the list Apoc provided him and asks for an approximation of how much would be required to get a good start on the supplies for the town. Knowing that it might take a bit he thanks the quartermaster and says he'll return upon the morn to work out what ever details needed. Azre then makes his way to the earth guild and seeks out one of its member that could provide him with the supplies needed to create his own workshop coin in hand he eagerly awaits an answer.

Gasping for breath, Apoc pulls his hood further down, covering most of his face. He scans the peoples faces, keeping an eye out for horns. Once he's gotten an idea of who populates Southfort, he makes his way to who assumes is the quartermaster.
"Greeting sir, my name is Apoc, it is good to meet you. I must ask, a group of my friends more than likely just came to you, one of which had a list I gave him, do you have it?
Even as he says those last words, he sees the "list" on the counter. The latest page of his unfinished book, The Baroness and the stable boy. If anyone found out that he writes romance novels....no, no one would find out.
"A page from my sister's diary." He states calmly as he scoops it up, replacing it with the proper list and a silver in one fluid movement.
The list itself reads as follows. 1. The location of skilled labor i.e. carpenters and stone masons. 2. Raw materials needed to build several carts for transporting heavy goods. 3. Mules or donkeys. If at all possible, I'd like to inspect them myself. 4. 5lbs. of loadstone. I absolutely need this and will pay extra for expediency. (aka naturally occurring magnets) 5. An inn or tavern. 6. An area where i could be allowed to work, large enough to build a cart. 7. A breeding pair of hounds, watch dogs preferably.
"In addition to the list," he hoists his heavy pack onto the table "I also have weapons and pelts for sale. Did I thank you for your time?" He slips the quarter master another silver. "Thank you very much for your assistance, and patience."

Over at the healer's guild, Azre finds a man who tells him that a workshop for creating potions typically costs quite a bit... 25 gold pieces to be exact. He also states that many of the vials, beakers, bottles and bowls are fragile and shouldn't be jostled too much.
The mages guild is nearly empty as Spike poses his question but in short order a young man comes to see who has yelled. He looks the pair over in condescending fashion and says, "We do trade in the Celestial arts, I'm sure you are looking for the general store. It is across the courtyard."
Apoc causes the Quartermaster to give him a quizzical look. When he finishes speaking the Quartermaster says, "Well, one thing at a time my friend. First, I will most certainly buy or trade for good quality weapons and pelts, we can negotiate the price. Second, that's quite a list you're looking for. Let's see... skilled labor. Well, not many stone masons around these parts since the fall of Whitestone, you may have to go as far as Hawksnest or even Soldrien to find skilled masons. Carpenters are a bit easier to procure. There's usually some up in Midton that are willing to be hired out. As for the cart materials, I have carts for sale if you want to skip the hard part. If not, then I can get supplies for that. I'm sure one of our smiths would be willing to give you a little space to do the work. There is an inn with a tavern just inside the western gate, you can't miss it. Now, if you're looking for top quality hounds, I know a breeder in Hawksnest that has the best. They are expensive though, he usually caters to the nobles and wealthy merchants, but if you can afford it, there are no finer hounds in the kingdom. Otherwise, you can usually find a breeder in most towns, I believe Midton has 2 in fact. Lodestone, eh? I remember hearing that they had found a few deposits of it in the old Whitestone quarry but that won't do you any good. As far as what is available... I'm not sure you can get your hands on 5 lbs of it right now. The little that is being mined locally is being snatched up for quite a sum. That leaves imports which are even more expensive. I hear that it is used in some of the great formal magic spells, like creating magic weapons and such, and that is why it is so sought after. I can ask around if you like but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you."

Spike's expression is one of shocked.
"What is the meaning of this? Why is there no one here? Where are the guild leaders?"

The young mage has a look of annoyance as he answers, "They are tending to Guild matters, now if you'll excuse me, I also have important work to do." With that, he gestures for you to leave...

The half-ogre, hero to the weak and example to the mighty, strides proudly through the crowds that mill about within Southfort. His strong jaw is held high, proud of his accomplishment, the great chrestomathy called De Libarry in Shallowford. As he steps into the Quartermaster's dingy room, the candles seem to burn brighter and the rusted helms of the bedraggled soldiers gleam with a new intensity. The wizard, however, does not notice. His mind is set on important business.
Fundi steps quietly through the crowd, avoiding making eye contact with the people around him. The latest events weigh heavily on him and he distracts himself with the thoughts of his library and its various "books."
As he steps into the quartermaster's office, he obviously avoids looking at the soldiers in the room. He barely lifts his head to speak; his words are quiet and practiced.
"Me still looking to buy books. And, uhh, me also need maps. Speshally maps of Shallowforr and Souffort and Aklishum and dat area. But udder maps is good, too. Big ones!"
His head drops again as he finishes speaking, his fingers dancing nervously in and out of fists.

The quartermaster looks up as the half-ogre asks his question and answers, "Well, there is usually a book or two stashed around here somewhere, if you don't mind what the content is. As for maps, we do have a quality map of the Kingdom, which is fairly large, though I don't know what size you're looking for specifically. I'm not certain I have any maps of more detailed regions of the Kingdom though. You might need to get something like that commissioned. Actually, they might have those types of maps in the Soldrien library. I'm fairly sure that the Lochling university had some as well but they've likely been used as a goblin's toilet paper by now."

The half-ogre smiles a little too broadly and opens his coin purse.

Azre thanks the merchant and assures him that he'll take every precaution as he bundles his perchase's. Making his way over to Apoc and his fellows, he carefully packs his new equipment with the other supplies and askes with a smile:
Anyone else still have business in SouthFort? If not i think we should be on are way? Hopefully the recent battles we've won caused the attacks and dangers of the area to stifle a bit.... yes. While it may not be much I'm hoping that what we have accomplished is still in good order when we return.
Glancing at his fellows Azre ponders there next adventure awaiting them in there new home of Shallowford.

Spike and his boy glance over at Azure.
"Let us be off. We have many things to do once we return to Shallows. Do we even know where to begin restoring that land to a better place? What about the pillars? Do we even know how many? Or even where they reside? And for the love of all that is striped, can we never return to that land we were transported to. I have seen many days of destruction, but where I was was 100 times worse.
What are some of the ideas we have when we return? I do not wish to claim a spot of land for nobility. I just want to give the people of my ward's tribe the freedom they deserve.

Led by the valiant half-ogre, the group begins its trek homeward. Hardly would they have the strength or courage to make the perilous three day adventure if not for Fundi's might, both physical and intangible.
Late on the second day, as the sun settled low behind the mountains to the west, the sturdy leader took temporary leave of his followers for personal reasons. It would be unsettling, he knew, for any of the party to see him as less than a demigod, attending to such menial tasks as the bathroom, but nature is a cruel mistress who brooked little insubordination.
Quickly did this wonder of a creature complete his necessities. He did not wish for his friends to worry or fear as they might without his presence. Sadly, the great compassion of our hero was to be his downfall, for as he hurried back to the fellow travelers, his mind was so strongly upon them and their deep need for his counsel, strength and aegis, that he made himself vulnerable.
In the crevice of a large rock sat the devil. His blue and orange scales sparkling in the waning sun. As Fundi, our dearest of dear, swept past this vile creature, it struck. Deep into the well toned muscle of the hero's calf sank poisoned teeth, burning and tearing as they penetrated.
Fever, pain and darkness soon overwhelmed even this mighty adventurer. Great magical and alchemical draughts did his friends poor into him as they sweated through a panicked and sleepless night. As the sun rose in the east, relief found them as their leader and inspiration awakened. His fever and delirium had slipped away with the last shreds of night, but the discoloration and pain remained.
Buoyed by concern for his friends, the brave half-ogre bashed together a crutch. Pain, no matter how uncurable or great, would not hinder him. The town of Shallowford relied on him, and he would not let them fall.
As the party travels through road home, Fundi disappears into the short brush for a personal moment. Scared of being caught out here alone, he is hurried in his doings and his return.
As he rushes back to the group, a small lizard-like beast attacks him. Covered in metallic scales of blue and orange, it has a large, triangular head and a mouth full of wicked teeth. It's bite burns as it penetrates, leaving the wound swollen and green.
The group, hearing Fundi's cry, hurries to him. The beast has escaped and the half-ogre is unconscious. After a few potions and elixirs are forced down his throat, Fundi's breathing returns to normal and his fever subsides. He remains asleep throughout the night. Late in the morning, Fundi awakens. Although he is out of immediate danger, the leg is still weak, the wound still discolored and feverish.
With the aid of a crutch and three portions of breakfast, Fundi is convinced to continue the journey home. In pain, he limps along near the back of the group.
