"Ambush!" A rain of arrows poured mercilessly into a supply caravan heading west for Soldrien, kiling most of the un-armed travelers instantly. Swords were drawn and shields were raised by the squad of eleven soldiers ordered to protect the supplies. "Form up! Testudo!" shouts the young lieutenant Antonius Dragonblade. The soldiers immediately close the gap between each other upon the command. Those in the front placed their shields forward while the men behind them raised their own shields over their heads. The testudo or tortoise formation proved effective as the assault continues, countless arrowheads making impact with tower shields. "Break off!" came another command from the lieutenant after the range attack ceased, causing the Royal Army squad to form a battle line towards the base firing direction of the arrows. It was the middle of the day, a hot afternoon, although the un-known attackers seem to be hidden in the woods to the side of the road. "Whatever comes out of those woods, they have some nerve assaulting supply wagons for the barracks..." a soldier utters while bracing himself in a defensive stance...
At first no noise was heard. Then the sounds of quick steps crushing leaves broke the silence. "Lizardmen??" Antonius questions his own vision as the scaled creatures charged their line, weilding scimitars and round shields. "Templars, now!" the lieutenant gave his command to the four spell casters in his squad. "I call forth an Ice Bolt! I call forth an Ice Bolt!" Frigid missiles of magical ice shards emits from a templar's hand, followed by similiar spells from the other casters. A few lizardmen reels back after receiving a hit from the spell blasts, while others were able to dodge out of the way to continue their charge. The distance closed between the humans and lizardmen in a violent eruption. Blades traded and shields collided, the reptilian humanoids outnumbering the soldiers three to one. "With myssstic force I web you!" Antonius turns his head around just as celestial energy enveloped his body. By the time the soldiers noticed the lizardman caster, it had already scurried away. The humans were overwhelmed, however the Lieutenant was spared. The enemy surrounded him and a large lizardman with an imposing muscular figure pushes himself through to stand over Dragonblade. "At long lasssst.." the creature said with a hiss. "Bring him to the groundsssss!" Before he knew it the soldier was asleep, almost instanteously as a gas globe lands and breaks on his forehead...
Resounding beats of war-drums filled the air at the lizardmen's tribal grounds. Tents were scattered throughout the grassy terrain however the outpost did not seem old, even moreso like a newly claimed territory. Antonius finally wakes up, bound tightly by rope to a tree and without his armor or weapon. "Dragonblade!" the large lizardman's face was the first thing the soldier sees upon opening his eyes, his voice loud and ominous. "Or should I say, the heir of the true Dragonblade..." Antonius groans in response then takes a deep breath before replying. "Who do you think you are? You realize you just attacked a Royal Army caravan?" The soldier's head snaps to the side as the lizardman delivers a merciless puch to the side of his face. "I am Luzgar, leader of this tribe! Akliceium has been my enemy sssssince before you were born!" Luzgar yells, his face only inches away from Antonius. "Decades and decades ago, we were successful in conquering villages and citiesssss... until we were humiliated by your cursed grandfather Marcus Dragonblade and his infantry..." the lizardman leader steps back, eyeing Antonius from head to toe. "You even look like him..." Luzgar continued with an icy glare. "Well, they do say that." Antonius says softly with a grin. This only provoked Luzgar to give him a hard punch to mouth, immediately drawing blood from the soldier's lips. "Marcus is dead and my tribe is nearly re-built. The only thing left to do is to sacrifice you to my ancestorssss in ritual." Luzgar wraps his claws around Antonius' neck, his reptillian eyes looking into the human's own. "A bit obsessive, are we not?" Antonius manages to say before Luzgar tightened the choke. The lizardman responds by releasing his neck, only to turn around and dig his claws into each side of the human's ribs. "Tonight.. Antoniusss... you die!" Luzgar pulls his claws out of Antonius' body, causing more blood to stain his white garments. The soldier can feel his body weakening and his life slowly draining out of him. Lizardmen cheered as the human bled and sunset approaches.
The ritual was a painful one, requiring the victim to bleed to death at nightfall then his body burnt in ceremonial fire. Luzgar wanted Antonius to suffer. By the hour, the tribe leader would open a wound either with his claws or trident. The lizardmen minions taunted the soldier but he gave no response. However, it was only a matter of time till Antonius can breathe no more. "Rejoice, my brethrens! This night marks the beginning of the end for those loyal to Aklicieum!" the charismatic Luzgar drew cheers from his tribe. Smoke rises from the fiery pit where they planned on burning the human. The barely recognizable Antonius stood helplessly, his eyes closed and his body covered in the crimson of his own blood..
"Attaaaaaack!"
A loud cry echoed throughout the woods followed by the blaring sound of war horns. Charging footsteps of what sounded like a sizable amount of humanoids put a cease to the tribe's celebration. "Orcs! Orcs!" cried a lizardman scout running towards the camp from the east. A spear ended the scout's life before it can even each the main camp, piercing it cleanly from the back and out the front. "Orcs?! How dare they! Show them our strength!" Luzgar raised his trident and commands his tribe to defend which resulted in a battle clash with the orcs. Luzgar demonstrated why he is indeed the tribe's leader, slaughtering waves of incoming orcs with his trident. The orcs were plentiful however and it came to the point where Luzgar found himself alone against the incoming attackers. Most of his minions are already dead or have fled, but the lizardman leader was holding his own. The wave comes to a halt and the battle ravaged Luzgar stood in the middle of dead bodies, orcs and lizardman alike. "Impressive..." the first time Antonius spoke after the sun had set. The weary and wounded lizardman turns to the human who is still bound to the tree. "Ssssilence, Dragonblade! This changes nothing, this night you will prepare to die!" the leader snapped at the soldier who slowly shook his head and replied, "No... YOU prepare to die!" Antonius' strifed body struggled and trembled as the magical surge of a "Delayed Endow" gave him the strength to break the ropes that bound him. Luzgar's eyes widened with a threathning hiss as the soldier charged him, crouching low at one point to pick up a fallen orc sword. Luzgar met the charge and attacked high for a thrust to Antonius' neck but the human went low and sliced just below the torso with a critical attack designed to slay an enemy. Luzgar's body stood still at first just before it collapsed into two pieces from the waist, ending his life once and for all. "Haaaaaa!!" Antonius raised the sword with a loud victory cry but it was the last thing he could do. Blood emerged from his mouth as he dropped to both knees, his fingers loosening its grip on the sword. He had lost too much blood and his final act ran purely on adrenaline. Antonius' body gave in and fell face first on the ground, becoming just another corpse alongside the fallen lizardmen and orcs.
Moments later, a small group of Orcs reinforcement came to the site of battle. "Looks like we won..." one of the orc spearman says, examining the area with his minions. He then walks over to Antonius' corpse, piercing him slightly with the end of his spear. "A human??" The other orcs crowded the corpse which lies next to the bottom and top half of Luzgar's own body. "Hrm, strange. Burn it with the rest."
The End.
